No charges pending after pig falls off truck

BROOKFIELD – It’s not uncommon to hear of a deer on the side of the highway, but a pig? That’s what some motorists were seeing Saturday night.

RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Scott MacRae confirmed the Colchester RCMP responded to a call of a pig on the highway.

“At 7:28 p.m., the Colchester RCMP responded to a traffic hazard in the southbound lane of Highway 102 between Brookfield and Stewiacke,” said MacRae, noting the caller had said there was an injured pig on the side of the road.

“As a result of the investigation, it was determined there was a farmer travelling southbound that was transporting three pigs when one of them broke free from the pen,” he said. “It then jumped from the truck, or however a pig would get off the back of a truck.”

The RCMP corporal said the pig suffered serious injuries and had to be put down.

“The farmer took possession of the remains,” he said.

MacRae said no motorists were injured during the pig’s escape and no charges are pending against the farmer.
