TRURO – Organizers of a 40th high school reunion are quite pleased with how well things have been progressing.
“Of 400 plus names of classmates, we have located all but 60 people,” said Marian Munro (nee Wilson), who is organizing the event with Kathy Burrows and Ian Legate. “We are totally thrilled. This is very much an investigative piece, but then things start to snowball from there.”
The reunion is for students who graduated from Cobequid Educational Centre in 1974, but those from the following graduating year have also been invited to attend if tickets are still available.
“We’ve gotten phone numbers or email addresses for so many of our classmates and just by using Canada 411, we have found students from Calgary and even North Vancouver,” she said, adding that some, when contacted, have had contact information for others.
So far, Munro said about 140 students from the 1974 class have confirmed attendance for the Aug. 16 reunion, and another 100 are confirmed from 1975. Graduates from 1975 are able to buy tickets to the dance after April 15, unless the tickets are sold out.
“We’re going to fill that Saturday night dance,” she said.
The dance will see the band Horse, popular in 1974, perform together again on stage.
“They were featured in the 1974 yearbook. They were smokin’ hot in Truro and the surrounding area back then. Ian knows all the members of the band and asked them if they’d perform for us, and they agreed,” said Munro.
“One of the members is in his 70s, so it’s pretty special. They’ve been getting together about once a month to practice.”
Along with the Saturday night event, Munro said another committee is forming a “Friday night social,” however no details are available as of yet.
She said the organizers are also hoping to put together a memory book featuring those graduates who have since passed away.
“There are about 20 of them. We’d like to have it on display at the reunion and also have it available as an e-book for download,” Munro explained.
If any graduates of 1974 have not yet been contacted by the organizing committee, they can contact Munro at email@example.com. Any graduates from 1975 wanting tickets can contact Munro at the same email address.
