TRURO – Three special presentations will be made to rotary members Thursday night.

The 88th Rotary Club of Truro’s charter night will honour Dr. Garth Coffin, Bill Lake and Chester MacPhee. Coffin will receive the Avenues of Service Award, which reflects involvement in vocational services, youth involvement, community, international and service to the club.

The Community Service Award will be handed out to Lake for his outstanding service through volunteerism or financial support to organizations and/or families who are in need in the community.

MacPhee will receive Rotarian of the Year honours for his outstanding service to the club and rotary in the last year.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Glengarry. This year’s rotary theme is ‘Engage Rotary – Change Lives.’

Thie Convery, a member of the Dundas Rotary Club in Ontario, will be the guest speaker. Convery works as an investment planner and has raised funds for polio eradication by attempting to swim 52 kilometres across Lake Ontario. Although weather conditions forced her to stop her Swim to End Polio halfway across the lake, close to $150,000 was raised and matched by the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation.
