Millbrook shooting suspects slapped with robbery charges

MILLBROOK – A man and woman charged following a New Year’s Day shooting on Millbrook First Nation have been arrested in connection with a robbery in Fall River.

According to police, Maquell Weatherbee, 25, and Robert Paul, 21, were involved in the Millbrook incident in the early hours of Jan. 1, which saw a 25-year-old man shot in the arm and a 19-year-old man pepper sprayed.

Around 8:30 p.m. that same day, Paul allegedly stabbed a convenience store employee during a botched robbery at the Petro-Canada on Highway 102 in Fall River.

Emergency responders took the employee to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been treated and released.

Officers arrested the suspects without incident early Thursday at an apartment on Galaxy Avenue in Dartmouth.

The two are being charged with attempted murder, assault and robbery.

Halifax RCMP Corp. Scott MacRae said the arrests were the result of police agencies across Nova Scotia sharing information and working together.

“It just shows that criminals don’t necessarily stay within the borders of police jurisdiction,” said MacRae.
