Rebecca LaPointe, left, and Miriah Kearney are co-owners of Beck and Boosh Jewelry and Styles. They have been selected to showcase their products during the Atlantic Fashion Week in Halifax next month.

Miriah Kearney and Rebecca LaPointe launched Beck and Boosh Jewelry and Styles in May 2013. They will be one of a number of designers showcased in Halifax during Atlantic Fashion Week, which runs Oct. 2 and 4 in Halifax. They will be a part of the Designer Showcase #2 on closing night, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4.

The women started their business with about 80 pieces of jewelry – mostly necklaces and bracelets – and have expanded considerably since to include pieces such as bags, scarves and men’s pieces. Fifteen per cent of the product is handmade by the women, 80 per cent is ethnically sourced from India, and the remaining five per cent is from China and Korea.

This is the eighth season of Atlantic Fashion Week, which provides Atlantic Canada’s most fashionable sneak peek of 2015’s hottest trends presented by the region’s best and brightest designers.

The founder and executive director to Atlantic Fashion Week, Angela Campagnoni, is encouraged by the increasingly growing attendance over the past seven seasons.

“The event only gets bigger and better each season,” she said in a press release announcing the showcased designers. “It’s incredible to see the public put so much support behind our home-grown talent. We look forward to once again providing AFW as a platform for our designers to showcase their brilliant creations to a large audience.”

The designer showcases are open to the general public and tickets are available through the Atlantic Fashion Week website at www.atlanticfashionweek.com.

Atlantic Fashion Week’s mission is to support the budding and established fashion designers of Atlantic Canada and the nation by displaying their creations for all to see and appreciate.
