Halifax police used a battering ram to get into a Fairview home and put an end to a standoff that began early Tuesday morning.
An agitated man, who was cursing at the officers, was brought out of the house at about 10:50 a.m.
Dana Matthew Wolfe, 46, has been charged with four counts of uttering threats, two counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest. He was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Tuesday.
The incident began at about 2:45 a.m., when police said they responded to a report that a man had assaulted a woman and a male youth at 49 Evans Ave. All parties know each other.
Police tried to get the man out of the house but he refused and made threats.
A warrant was obtained and members of Halifax Regional Police’s emergency response team entered the residence and arrested the man, police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
At about mid-morning on Tuesday, the man came out through a window onto a low roof and could be seen talking to police with a beverage in his hand.
Police closed Evans Avenue between Ford and Titus streets during the incident. It has since reopened.
Media on the scene were able to listen in on a family friend’s phone call that was put on a speaker.
“They’re (the police) actually harassing the neighbourhood,” said the man, who sounded intoxicated.
“They want to threaten me with their (expletive) dog? I want to rip every one of your heads off, one by one, you and me.”
The man said he had returned from a karaoke bar when his stepson hit him on the head.
The owner of the house, which the suspect was renting, could be seen talking to police at the scene.
After the suspect was taken away, police removed a dog from the house.
