A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Saturday evening was issued a ticket by Halifax Regional Police.

A male was crossing at Mumford Road and Leppert Street at a marked crosswalk equipped with amber lighting at about 7 p.m. The pedestrian failed to activate the crossing lights before entering the street and was struck, according to a police news release.

Witnesses confirmed that the lights, which were determined to be in working order at the time, were not activated, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The ticket was issued to the pedestrian under Section 125 (4) of the Motor Vehicle Act, which states that a pedestrian is not to leave the curb before activating a crosswalk beacon.
