TRURO, N.S. - A portion of Glenwood Drive is shut down to traffic after a set of wires were damaged following an incident with an industrial truck Tuesday.

Truro police and fire were on the scene around 2:30 p.m. after the bin of a large work truck struck multiple low hanging cables, causing damage to both the cables and the truck.

“There was no suspicion of driver error or intoxication in relation to the incident, and no one was hurt” said Sgt. Robert John Hunka of the Truro Police.

“It is believed the cause of the accident was the canvas covering the open trailer had blown upwards due to strong winds, causing the metal arms holding the canvas to flip up and strike the lines while the vehicle was driving.”

Police have closed off Glenwood Drive between Grandview Drive and Harris Avenue along with the sidewalks along Glenwood, and also closed down a section of King Street heading onto Glenwood Drive.

“Multiple lines were broken and live on the ground,” said Hunka.

“We shut down the sidewalks just to ensure people’s safety given there was a school nearby. That was our main priority was making sure all pedestrians were safe.”

While multiple lines were damaged, only two homes are temporarily without power as the other lines were communication lines, reported NS Power.

Both Bell Aliant and Eastlink are on the scene to work on repairing the damaged communications lines.

Although the road was still closed off as of 4:15 p.m., Truro Police reported repair work would only take 1-2 hours, with the road opening shortly after completion.
