Downtown traffic re-routed as Young Street closed for construction

TRURO, N.S. - Traffic in the downtown area of Truro may be delayed as part of Young Street is closed for construction today.

The road is blocked to all traffic from Prince Street to Victoria Street as road crews work to replace a drain near the Truro Farmers Market.

“They are just replacing a catch basin that has met its service life,” said Chuck Roberts, senior engineer for Public Works.

“It’s not necessarily routine eminence, it’s just a basin that has probably been in the ground for quite some time. There are concrete rings in the basin and one of them has failed so they’re just replacing the entire unit.”

While there is no estimate on when work will be finished, the Public Works department said the road will be closed at least until later this afternoon.

“It will probably be a few more hours before they get everything in place and backfilled and cleared away,” said Roberts.

A detour has been set up on Forrester Street and Victoria Street for traffic looking to reach Young Street.
