Ventus Machina will be on site on July 3 at 7:30 p.m. for their summer program, Pictures by the Shore.
The program will feature the quintet arrangement of Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition,’ and will also include music written specifically for Ventus Machina by New Brunswick composers Richard Gibson and Michael Miller. Also featured is ‘Solos’ for quintet by Ontario’s Marjan Mozetich - get ready for some chair-dancing as you’re taken through the streets of Paris, to the deserts of Arabia, and twirled through a little swing, tango and waltz music.
A well-known Mozart opera overture is thrown in for good measure, and the whole program is delivered in Ventus Machina’s informal and conversational style.
Ventus Machina was founded in September 2011, thanks to a joint initiative between Symphony New Brunswick and l’Université de Moncton. The group has played for thousands of New Brunswick students over the last three seasons as part of their educational outreach mandate, and appears regularly in public performances throughout the Maritimes.
The members of the quintet are Karin Aurell, flute; Christie Goodwin, oboe; Ulises Aragon, French horn; Nicolas Tremblay, clarinet; and Patrick Bolduc, bassoon. Despite their very different backgrounds, these five musicians find common ground in their passion for teaching and performing chamber music.
Along with the performance at Jost Vineyards, Ventus Machina is also scheduled for July 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tidnish Crossroads Community Hall.
Tickets for both performances will be available at the door for $15 for adults, $5 for students and children under 12 are free.
