Downtown Truro will be kicked up to 11 as snowboarders and skiers take over Inglis Place for a freestyle snowboarding and skiing competition.

HAF Skate and Tattoo is holding its first Inglis Street Invitational, a street-style snowboarding and skiing competition and party on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. The event offers local athletes a chance to show off their skills and compete for cash prizes.

“Some of our reps sent down a few boxes, so we’ve got some product to throw out to winners,” said Luke Davis of HAF. “Also, Truro Nissan is providing $1,000 in cash prizes, so that will be split up as well for the competition.”

The competition is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages, and will feature a few rails for competitors to trick on at the former Margolians parking lot, as well as a smaller setup for youth competitors.

While the competition is the main draw for athletes, the skate shop will also be hosting a party, which will include a live DJ as well as drinks sold onsite by Coldstream Clear and $50 flash tattoos by HAF tattoo artist Lance Hoag for the over 19 crowd.

Both Jimolly’s Café and HAF will be open until 10 p.m. on Friday as well for those interested in grabbing some food and buying new gear.

“February is usually a pretty boring and stale month, so we just wanted to put on something fun to lighten up the month,” said Davis.

“It’s something to look forward to in February, and it’s a way to draw as many people downtown as we can. There will be plenty of stuff to do. If there is a good turnout, we are hoping to keep hosting it each year.”

The Inglis Street Invitational is free for competitors and fans.
