An entertaining show, personal stories and some beautiful works of art will all be elements of The Vagina Monologues this year.
Beth Terry and Stephanie MacArthur are directing for a second year, and they’re excited.
“This year there are some new things going on,” said Terry. “We have #MeToo monologues that are written by women within our community, and we’ve opened the performance up to men, with the addition of the Man Prayer.”
A basket, filled with items and gift certificates donated by local businesses, will be raffled off, and a silent auction, consisting of pieces of art done by members of the cast, will be conducted.
“The money raised will go to the Colchester Sexual Assault Centre,” explained Terry. “One of the reasons we chose the centre is because they help all sexes. The Vagina Monologues are primarily female, but we’re really about focusing on the community as a whole. Because the Colchester Sexual Assault Centre helps everyone, they get less funding than female-only centres, and they’re very busy.”
The Vagina Monologues is being staged in the Cobequid Educational Centre auditorium on Friday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20, or $15 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at Seashell Design, The Downtown Hound, 2U Like New, NovelTea and Stephanie MacArthur Photography, as well as at the door and through www.eventbrite.ca .
Tickets can be delivered to people in the Truro area who have mobility issues.
