BIBLE HILL, NS
Can you escape the spooky stable or will you end up buried in the barnyard?
Shelby Gatti and Tracey MacKenzie Higgins have created a haunted barn and escape room that even they find creepy if they’re alone in it after dark.
“We built it from scratch so when we started getting the heebie jeebies I told Shelby that we must have done a good job,” said MacKenzie Higgins.
The barn is one of the experiences offered through Forever Memories Equestrian Centre, and includes a dark maze filled with creepy characters and eerie items. Once a group of visitors enters the ‘blood room’ they’re locked in, with an hour to put their clues together and figure out how to escape.
“We’re always looking for new ideas and we got addicted to the escape rooms in Halifax,” said MacKenzie Higgins. “We thought it would be a lot of fun to have something here, but it’s been a lot of work putting it together.”
Escape rooms have storylines, and the one for the haunted barn is that the group dared a friend to go into a barn owned by a man who was questioned about the disappearance of some women. Now the friend has disappeared and the group has to solve the clues and escape to save her.
Clues are geared toward adventurers 15 and up, but those as young as eight will be admitted if accompanied by an adult. The barn is now open and groups of four to eight can book, at a cost of $20 per person, by calling 902-957-7433.
“This barn just seemed like the perfect spot for this,” said Gatti. “Because it’s old it adds to the atmosphere.
“We just kept coming up with more ideas while we were building this one. We’re hoping to have a Christmas themed one, and one that will be a surprise, later this year.”
