Music and magic for mental health

TRURO – World-renowned ventriloquist and entertainer Mike Robinson is giving a rare Truro performance this weekend.

A featured act on CBC’s Just for Laughs, Robinson has opened for Celine Dion and Sinbad, and performs internationally on cruise ships and for high-end corporate clients.

He will be at the Marigold Cultural Centre on April 25 for MUSIC and MAGIC in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association Colchester-East Hants branch.

Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River MLA Lenore Zann will host the evening, which will also feature David Johnston, known locally as The Amazing Mr. J. Laura Smith, an award-winning folk musician, is also on the bill, as well as pop/funk/jazz trio Shelter.

Zann was one of five chosen by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness to publicly share her personal story in an effort to help eradicate any stigma associated with having a mental illness.

The event will be open to those 14 and older, and tickets are $25 each with proceeds going to the local mental health branch.

Tickets can be purchased at the Marigold box office on Prince Street, by calling 902-897-4004, or by visiting marigoldcentre.ca.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
