Ducks Unlimited Canada will kick off its new Treasured Wetlands of Nova Scotia (TWNS) program on Saturday, July 21 at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.

The program is aimed at getting Nova Scotians outside and exploring nature.

Each year, TWNS will feature four special Nova Scotia wetlands, treasured for their importance to the environment and their communities. The chosen wetlands this year are Annapolis Royal Marsh in Annapolis Royal, Swaines Bog in Shelburne County, Cole Harbour Marsh in the Halifax region and Black River Fen in Inverness County, Cape Breton.

TWNS explorers can use the treasure map, which features information on each wetland (including directions and GPS coordinates), to find photo posts placed on the trails at each wetland site, where they can snap pictures of their adventure and share them on social media.

The program kicks off on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. during Duck Day festivities at the park. Duck Day activities include a free barbecue, nest-box building, face-painting, critter dipping and retriever dog demonstrations, and more, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park’s Wetland Centre.
