TRURO, NS- Creating a positive educational experience for performers is the goal for Andrea Jeffrey, one of the adjudicators for this year’s Truro Music Festival.

Jeffrey is the adjudicator for musical theatre, jazz/blues, song and dance, monologues and recitations, which will take place at the Marigold Cultural Centre March 22-24.

“My focus is on the students, and giving them a rewarding experience,” she said. “I highlight their strengths and point out areas they can work on.”

She has a Master in Music (vocal performance) from the University of Toronto and her performances include the title role in Opera Nova Scotia’s production of Bastienne and Bastien, and Laura in Verdi's Luisa Miller. She has joined the Aradia Ensemble on three Naxos recordings.

She began teaching at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts in 2006 and recently started teaching in elementary schools. Although she has been an adjudicator at other music festivals, this will be her first time holding the position in Truro.

“Truro has always had a tremendous reputation for being a town full of high-quality music,” Jeffrey added.

“Going to these events is amazing. Just to hear the sheer, raw talent some kids have is wonderful. When you leave your heart is full. In this sometimes-grey world it’s a bright light.”
