Truro woman sentenced for several offences
TRURO – A Truro woman convicted of assaulting a police officer, shoplifting and a number of other offences has been sentenced to 18 months house arrest.
Sarah Elizabeth McCabe, 30, of 173 Arthur St., must spend the first 12 months of her conditional sentence under full house arrest. For the remaining six months, she will be on an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
McCabe pled guilty to stealing from Sobeys, assaulting Truro police officer Geoff Green, mischief by damaging property and several charges of breaching probation by failing to keep the peace.
During her sentencing period, McCabe must not possess, use or consume alcohol or illicit drugs, stay away from drinking establishments, have no association with known criminals and successfully take counselling for drug/alcohol use and mental health.
Truro man fined for carrying prohibited weapon
TRURO – A Truro man convicted of carrying a prohibited weapon was fined $300 in provincial court Wednesday.
Joseph Kevin Neffessey, 50, of 700 Willow St., was fined an additional $300 for marijuana possession.
The prohibited weapon he was convicted of carrying was a balisong knife (a knife with a folding blade). He has been banned from possessing firearms or weapons for five years.
As well, Krista Lee Priest, 38, of the same address, was fined $300 for marijuana possession and handed a suspended sentence and 12 months probation for possessing a prohibited firearm (a hand gun).
She was also convicted of possessing a firearm without a licence and ordered to take counselling as directed for substance abuse.
