Upper Stewiacke Notebook: Community congratulates grads, award winners

Members of the Freemasons of Elm Lodge #115 of Upper Stewiacke recently made presentations to the Stewiacke Valley Barn Quilt Trail project and to the Upper Stewiacke Elementary School. A cheque for $300 was presented to Trudi O’Connell and Erin Falkenham on behalf of the quilt project and a cheque for $2000 went to the school to help with the its breakfast program

Well folks, another school term has passed. Congratulations are in order for all the students who worked hard this year to achieve their goals. Grade six students from Upper Stewiacke Elementary who are going on to Brookfield Jr. High are: Jayden Cameron, Abigail Falkenham, Cody Swinimer Ross, Colby Swinimer, William Patterson,   Mason, Jesse Graham, Garret Graham, Maddex Evans, Korey Dunlap and Cydney Crowe.

Grade 12’s graduating from South Colchester Academy are: Stephen Drenth, Maggie Fisher, Nicholas Howe [Honours with distinction, RBC Scholarship and UNB Entrance Scholarship ($1,000)], Jordan Leblanc, Mitchell Morash, Trueman Russell, Emily Power [Honours with Distinction], Chad Spence, Lucas O’Connell, Bailey Wright [Honours-Monroe C. Bell Scholarship, Brookfield Men’s Club Citizenship Award, Grad Class Community Award, Order Eastern Star bursary, SCA staff award, Mount Allison Entrance Scholarship ($4,000), Mount Allison Garnet Scholarship ($8,000)], Jonathan Fisher [Antigonish Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Award and the Rutherford-Taylor-Forbes Memorial Scholarship], James O’Connell [Honours with Distinction, NS Freemasons Scholarship from #115, Elm Lodge, Stewiacke Valley Bicentennial Award, the Rutherford-Taylor-Forbes Memorial Scholarship and the Upper Stewiacke  Auxiliary Student Award ($1,000).

Marley Geddes, daughter of Marvin and Sandra Geddes, recently graduated from Dalhousie University with 1st class honours in Environmental Science and received the University medal for Environmental science. Congratulations Marley!

Congratulations to Scott and Katie Mason on the arrival of their new daughter, Ruby Jane, born June 25.

Congratulations to Natalie (Deyarmond) Cox and Stefan Petley on their baby boy, Levi Robert. He is a grandson for Mary (Deyarmond) Cox and great-grandson for Irene Deyarmond.

Get well wishes to Roddy Prest, Bill Parks, and to Tim Decker who just got out of hospital after a very long stay.

A reminder about the strawberry salad supper at the Upper Stewiacke church hall on July 15 from 4:30 – 6:30.
