Doug Mackenzie, director of parks, recreation and culture for the town of Truro says the weather forecast looks favourable for maintaining the Caldwell-Roach/Kings Mutual Insurance Ice Surface.
“We’ll stay open as long as the weather is cool enough and looking at the long range forecast it looks like the next two weeks will be okay,” he said. “As long as it stays in the single digits our chilling plant should be able to hold the ice in.”

MacKenize says the crowds have thinned a little over the last couple weeks.
“I think many people are assuming we’re closed,” said Mackenzie. “Certainly I never assumed we would be open this long – Halifax closed but their surface is a long narrow strip and it would only take a little spot to soften up – our surface is a big solid block of ice – and Truro is a degree or two colder.”
MacKenzie says they have received lots of positive feedback and is great to see people out and using the surface.
“We’re very pleased with how it has been received and we encourage people to get out and use it for another two weeks,” he said.
