The school year is back in full swing, and so are community recreation nights – basketball, badminton, floor hockey and gym time – hosted by Truro Parks, Recreation and Culture.

Everyone is welcome to participate in these activities, which are all offered free of charge, on weeknights and at several gymnasiums in Truro.

Adult recreational basketball is held on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Truro Elementary School.

Children’s open gym time is held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Truro Junior High School. That popular event is followed by adult recreational badminton from 8 to 9:15 p.m.

Recreational badminton is also held on Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Truro Elementary School.

When using Truro Elementary School on Tuesday and Thursday nights, participants are asked to use the Abbey Avenue entrance.

Finally, adult recreational ball hockey is held Thursdays at Douglas Street Recreation Centre from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Participants in all activities are reminded to bring indoor sneakers and water.

For more information about community recreation nights, contact Shannon Jarvis at 893-6093 or

Note, if school is closed for an in-service or snow day, then recreation night activities will also be cancelled.
