Nominations are being sought by the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce to recognize outstanding business leaders at its annual awards and dinner gala.

“For the past 29 years, the business community has gathered to proudly celebrate the recipients of the Chamber’s most distinguished awards,” said chamber president Alex Stevenson. “The annual gala dinner is our premiere event to recognize both an individual and a business for leadership and excellence.”

Two awards will be presented at the April 12 event: the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) Business Person of the Year Award and the Community Credit Union Business Excellence Award.

To view full award criteria and to access 2018 nomination forms, visit www.trurocolchesterchamber.com, or email [email protected] .

The deadline to submit completed nominations is March 16.

The Community Credit Union Business Excellence Award recognizes a business that has been in operation for at least 10 years and has had an outstanding impact on the community in Truro or Colchester. The BDC Business Person of the Year Award acknowledges a founder, owner, CEO, president or manager who has achieved significant success in business and who has shown strong leadership skills and business acumen contributing to the consistent growth of the business.

Along with the two prestigious award presentations, the gala will feature special guest speaker Senator Dan Christmas. The senator has served in various leadership positions in the Mi’kmaw Nation of Nova Scotia.

Christmas has been active in a number of international, national, provincial and local agencies in a wide range of fields including aboriginal and treaty rights, justice, policing, education, health care, human rights, adult training, business development and the environment. He is the first Mi’kmaq senator to be appointed to the Senate of Canada.

“Senator Christmas is recognized as a leader on an international scale and we look forward to hearing his message and vision,” Stevenson said.

Seats must be reserved by April 9. Cost for members is $50 plus HST and $60 plus HST for non-members.
