S & D Smith Central Supplies Ltd. Division in Windsor, N.S.
Central Supplies is being sold to Kent Building Supplies.
The news was announced in a release from Central owner Steve Smith, Tuesday afternoon.
“It is with many mixed emotions I announce today that effective Dec. 31, 2016 I am selling Central Supplies to the Kent Building Supplies organization,” Smith wrote.
“2016 has been a special year for Central as we celebrated our 40th year in this business. But 2016 also marks a time when there is much transition and change in the world of home improvements. With your support we have taken Central to great heights as one of the largest independently owned building supply companies in the country but we are also at a cross roads. The demographics are changing and with it has come greater pressures to invest heavily in infrastructure and technology in order to grow and expand.”
He said that they chose Kent to lead the company to a new level because of their strong record of growth and investment in Atlantic Canada.
“They will be committed to each of you, as I have, to ensure the operations continue to grow and prosper,” he said. “They are passionate about the customer, their employees and the home improvement industry.”
All Central locations have been sold. There are stores throughout Nova Scotia in Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Port Hawkesbury, Stellarton, Sydney and Windsor.
No other businesses will be included in the deal. Atlantic Windows, Smith’s real estate operations and Keltic Quay will remain under their current ownership.
Smith thanked his customers and employees for their loyalty.
“What started with such humble beginnings back in 1976 has been the pride of my working life and to have shared these experiences with so many wonderful people has been an honour and a pleasure.”
