TRURO - Colchester Highland Dancers impressed the judges during a recent competition in Bible Hill.
The Colchester Highland Dance Association hosted the competition in October at Redcliff Middle School.
Morning dancers were Abigael Brownell, Camryn Rieksts and MacKenzie Stewart. Brownell placed third in Pas de Basques and second in Pas de Basques and High Cuts while Rieksts received a second place in Pas de Basques and fourth place in Pas de Basques and High Cuts. Both girls competed in the Primary A division.
Stewart danced in the beginner 9 and 10 category and earned a third-place finish in the highland fling and second place in the sword dance.
The intermediate and premier dancers from Colchester were Sarah MacDonald, Sarah Fougere, Megan Wynn, Rachel Curry, Emily Hunter, Samantha Ellis, and Rebecca MacLeod.
Intermediate 11 and over dancer Sarah MacDonald received a fifth in sailors hornpipe, and second place in the Scottish lilt and Flora MacDonald's Fancy. MacDonald was the recipient of the Colchester pre-premier dancer of the day award.
The premier 10 and under category saw Sarah Fougere dancing to a fifth-place finish in the sailors hornpipe, a first-place finish in the Irish jig, sixth place in the Scottish lilt and second in Flora MacDonald's Fancy. Fougere was the recipient of the Colchester premier dancer of the day award.
Rachel Curry danced in the premier 13 category and received a sixth place in the sailors hornpipe.
Emily Hunter and Samantha Ellis both danced in premier 14. Hunter danced to a fifth place in the sailors hornpipe, the Scottish lilt and Flora MacDonald's Fancy, as well as a second-place finish in the Irish jig.
Ellis received a sixth-place finish in both the sailors hornpipe and Flora MacDonald's Fancy.
