The Nova Scotia Community College Truro campus hosted the fifth annual Mawi'omi on Jan. 31 as a way to celebrate Mi'kmaq and First Nations culture while educating the public.
The event featured a number of dances, both male and female individually as well as a whole, drumming and singing. Residential school survivors were honoured, as were veterans and current members of the Canadian and American militaries and police forces.
The event was open to the public and many students from local schools were in attendance.
