TRURO - It was a big day for Truro Lions Peter and Sarah Millman at Wednesday's invitational throwing competition at the TAAC Grounds.
Peter broke a 30-year-old discus record by more than two metres with his 49.35m effort. The toss eclipsed the 47.96m mark set by Ken Greifender and beat Millman's personal best by nearly five metres. Sarah set a pair of records in bantam discus and hammer. She made a 25.63m throw in discus while launching a 29.20m effort in the hammer.
Drew Erskine was just shy of Peter Milner's 1985 provincial record of 10.81m in shotput with his toss of 10.67m. Other Lions posting personal bests were Nick Gault (shot put and hammer), Robert Kennedy (shot put) and Erin Pugsley (hammer). Lions members will be competing at the Athletics Nova Scotia Provincial Championships at Beazley Field in Dartmouth July 4 and 5 where they hope to place several athletes on the Nova Scotia Legion track and field team.
