Clifton athlete wins NCAA javelin event

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Clifton native Jared Baird claimed top spot in javelin at the recent Asics Winthrop Invitational track meet at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.
The 20-year-old Winthrop student posted a 61.43m toss, while James Pachucki of Lehigh University finished second at 60.79m.
The throw was Baird's last of the competition.
Baird has already qualified for the NCAA Division 1 East Region championship with a throw of 63.5m at the University of North Florida Spring Break Open in Jacksonville, Fl., earlier this month.
The regional qualifying mark is 61.60m.
Baird and his Eagles teammates will be competing at the Duke Invitational this weekend at Duke University in Durham, N.C.
