Snowshoe events being offered by Hike Nova Scotia

EARLTOWN - Hike Nova Scotia (HNS) will be hosting a number of guided snowshoe events encouraging people to experience the wonder of winter.
For all events people are encouraged to wear proper clothing, bring water and a lunch with them.
The first will be held on Jan. 16, co-ordinated by HNS partners Cobequid Eco-Trails Society and the Municipality of Colchester. The hike will begin at 10 a.m. at the Gully Lake Wilderness Trail Head on Kemptown Road in Earltown. The hike will take approximately four hours to complete and span about eight kilometres.
If required, snowshoes can
be reserved by calling Sheila Wilson 895-2007.
On Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. a snowshoe and cross-country ski event will be held around the Earltown Lakes and Portage Trail, lasting about two and a half hours. Participants are asked to meet at Sugar Moon Farm on the Alex MacDonald Road.
Skis can be rented for the event from the Truro Cross Country Ski Club.
A cross-country ski event, also on Jan. 23, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gully Lake Wilderness Area. The event is sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment-Protected Areas branch. Pre-register by calling Oliver Maass at 902-424-2123 or maassoc@gov.ns.ca. Group size is limited.
On Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. a snowshoe event will be held in Earltown beginning at Sugar Moon Farm. The trek will be between five and six kilometres and is sponsored by Central Nova Volkssport, Municipality of Colchester and HNS.
