RCMP charge 17-year-old in accident that killed three young men


HARBOURVIEW — Charges have been laid in a fatal collision that killed three young men in July.

The Inverness RCMP Detachment announced Saturday they have charged the male driver with six criminal code charges including three counts of dangerous operation of a motor mehicle causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The 17-year-old from Harbourview will be appearing in Port Hood youth court on Feb. 19.

The charges stem from a single-vehicle accident that occured on July 22 at approximately 11:30 p.m.

RCMP were called to the collision scene on Shore Road in Harbourview. A Toyota Echo was traveling northbound with seven occupants when it left the road and went into the ditch.

Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Four occupants were transported to St. Martha's Hospital in Antigonish for treatment while one occupant passed away prior to being airlifted from Port Hood to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax.

Seventeen-year-old Logan Patrick MacIntyre and 19-year-old Morgan Christopher MacIntyre, both from Judique, and 20-year-old Joel Cecil Chandler of Port Hood died as a result of the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
