TRURO - An ambitious $26-million goal has been reached to build a new hospital for Colchester East Hants.
The Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation launched the To Our Health campaign in December 2005 and announced today it had reached the goal after a Debert company doubled its original pledge of $100,000.
"When we got the information from Peter Kohler Windows and Entrance Systems we couldn't believe it," said campaign chairman Chris MacDougall. "We reviewed the message more than once to make sure we understood it correctly. The company had already made a very significant pledge early on in the campaign, and then to come back in and take us to the goal was amazing."
He added there have been several new pledges and gifts provided during the past two weeks, including from St. George's Anglican Church and Eastern Canadian Structures Ltd.
"At this point in the campaign we could not have imagined this level of support, and in such a short time span," said MacDougall. "We were thrilled."
Today's announcement culminates four years of dedication by a group of 80 volunteers who provided countless hours to make the project a reality.
"I've been so thankful for the great team that supported this campaign, and I've been so moved by the generosity of the donors in Colchester and East Hants," MacDougall said. "To the businesses, community organizations, municipal units and individuals, I cannot adequately express my gratitude. You'll know the tremendous difference and impact you've made when our new hospital opens."
