Mattatall, Brodeur 11th after short program at worlds

LOS ANGELES - John Mattatall of Wallace and skating partner Mylene Brodeur of Stanbridge Station, Que., finished 11th in the pairs short program on Tuesday at the International Skating Union's world figure skating championship.
Mattatall and Brodeur had a score of 50.44. Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy (72.30) lead after the short program.
Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison (61.80), Canada's defending bronze medallists in pairs, find themselves with considerable ground to make up after finishing seventh in the short program. Teammates Meagan Duhamel and Craig Buntin (61.28) were eighth.
The pairs long program was last night (results unavailable at press time).
