TRURO - Hunters will be in the forest starting today as the deer season officially begins.
"Deer hunting is a popular sport in our province, but it also helps manage the wildlife population," said Natural Resources Minister John MacDonell.
The five-week season excludes Sundays and runs until Dec. 5. The department reminds hunters and non-hunters to wear hunter-orange clothing at all times when in the woods.
The department said meat may again this year be donated to food banks through Feed Nova Scotia's Hunters Helping the Hungry program. Hunters may bring a deer or moose to a participating meat cutter to donate all or a portion of the meat to help families in need.

Bambi, why Bambi ?? In this movie hunters were hunting deer while the fawn still had spots. This isn't allowed anywhere where that hunting is a regulated game management tool. It was one of the first of a long line of anti-hunting movies.

Why not use wording that portrays hunting as responsible game management and an valued addition to local economies?
