Cougars girls win silver at North Nova tourney

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars brought back silver medals from the weekend's fourth annual North Nova High School Girls Hockey Tournament in Trenton.
The Cougars were nipped 1-0 by the Northumberland Nighthawks in the final.
Cougars netminder Kayla Gallagher was named to the tournament all-star team with a pair of shutouts.
Forward Tiffany MacDonald also made the team.
Cobequid made the final with a 2-1 victory over Kings Edgehill in the semifinal.
Montana Forsyth and Amanda Dale scored just nine seconds apart to give the Cougars the lead and Gallagher claimed the win.
The Cougars finished the round-robin with a 6-0 thrashing of Dalbrae.
Raelee Rath potted a hat trick while MacDonald netted two and Danielle McCully rounded out the scoring. Ali Munroe chipped in three assists with singles going to MacDonald, Kate McClafferty, Gillian Manley, Shannon MacKenzie and Megan McCully.
The Cougars blanked Eastern Shore 4-0 in their second game of the event.
Dale, Manley, Danielle McCully and Nikita Blaauwendraat scored while Daina MacEachern, Manley, McClafferty, Rath, MacDonald and Munroe all assisted.
Cobequid opened the event with a 4-3 shootout win over Kings-Edgehill.
Ali Munroe scored on CEC's fifth shot to seal the victory. MacDonald, Rath and Danielle McCully provided the regulation goals. Danielle McCully, MacDonald and McClafferty picked up helpers.
Cobequid is in Westville tonight to open the playoffs against Northumberland. The teams meet in Tatamagouche Tuesday.
