TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars are right where they want to be.
The girls' volleyball team opened the Nova Scotia School?Athletic Federation Division 1 provincial championship Friday with a pair of victories against Horton (15-14, 15-12) and Prince Andrew (15-10, 15-8).
"It's nice to start this way, but it doesn't tell us much," coach Bob Piers said last night.
The Cougars play their final preliminary game this morning against Sackville in Sydney. A win clinches first place in the division and would mean a semifinal match with the other division's second-place team.
"I'll tell the girls tonight, like I tell them every year, 'provincials are won on Saturday, not on Friday,'" Piers said.
The Cougars are looking for their third straight provincial championship and 11th in 14 years.
