Cougars take early exit from Judges invitational

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars boys volleyball team missed the playoffs at the recent J.L. Ilsley Judges Invitational tournament at J.L. Ilsley high school.
The Cougars posted a 2-2 record at the event to move to 19-12 on the season.
Cobequid, needing to win just one match on Day 2 of the event to advance to the playoffs, were dealt a final blow by the Judges in a 25-19, 16-25, 5-15 loss. Cobequid also dropped a 25-27, 25-22, 9-15 decision to Halifax West after opening the tournament with straight sets wins over the Hants East Tigers (25-12, 25-6) and the C.P. Allen Cheetahs (25-10, 26-24).
Grade 11 leftside Evan Maynard led the Cougars with eight perfect passes, seven digs and four service aces. Grade 11 middle Ben Fraser had team highs with eight aces, five blocks and 19 kills. Logan Baillie played three different positions and added 14 perfect passes, three aces and 11 digs.
The Cougars are competing at the Sackville Kingfishers Invitational this weekend ahead of the NSSAF Northumberland Region Championship Nov. 17 and 18 against the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals.
