Cougars fall in quarter-final of girls volleyball tournament

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars lost a quarter-final match to the eventual-champion Riverview Royals at the recent Cougar Classic high school girls volleyball tournament.
The Royals defeated the Cougars in straight sets, winning 25-23, 28-26. Riverview later went on to defeat Dr. J.H. Gillis (27-15, 16-25, 15-12) in a semifinal match and Bridgewater (25-15, 25-14) in the final.
The Cougars, meanwhile, split sets with Kensington (25-13, 20-25) and Sackville (17-25, 25-12), while downing Parkview and Sydney Academy in straight sets to finish first in their pool.
The CEC #2 team lost close sets to Hants East, Par-en Bas and Dr. J.H. Gillis and defeated Avonview in straight sets. In the consolation round, CEC #2 fell to Colonel Gray.
This weekend, the CEC #1 team will compete in the Dalhousie Invitational. The CEC #2 team has the weekend off.
