WENTWORTH - For the last four years skiers and snowboarders have been gathering at Wentworth Ski Hill to remember a woman who spent countless hours of her life on the very same hill.
Cathy Fitzpatrick passed away five years ago from cancer, and for the last four years her family and friends have been holding Cathy's Cup to help raise money for various charities in her name.
Cathy's Cup is a race down Wentworth with the best recorded times qualifying for prizes; there's also a dance later on in the evening. One young man even dyed his hair pink with one of the prizes being the honour to shave his head.
"I think she would have loved it, she was always competitive and always wanted good prizes, she just loved to have fun," said Cathy's daughter Jodi Fitzpatrick, about the event.
It's great to see people turn out, whether they race or not they still usually donate to the cause, which is great, she said.
Marian Reston was a good friend of Cathy's and is also one of the organizers of the event.
With 340 skiers registered this year and with people being so generous with their donations she's more than happy with this year's event.
Her friend would have loved every second of it, she was a great supporter of Ski Wentworth, she said.
"Her whole family skis, her husband, all her children and now her grandchildren are skiers and borders. And she skied with her brothers and sister on this hill from a time when she was very young."
