TRURO - The Scott Ferguson/Jennifer Nettleton Memorial Tennis Tournament takes place Saturday at the Truro Tennis Club.

The 2007 edition is a milestone: its 10th year.

The mixed doubles tournament was started in 1998 and had been named in honour of Scott Ferguson, a former club pro who died in a highway accident in June, 1996. Sadly, the tournament would be re-named a year later to also pay tribute to Jennifer Nettleton, Scott's fiance, who succumbed to cancer in 1999. Nettleton, who was 33 when she died, was also well-known in tennis circles.

"Ten years is a pretty good run," said Dave Ferguson, Scott's father.

"Quite a bit of good has come out of the tournament."

Over the years, all money raised from the tournament has been used to help youngsters get involved with the sport. Dave Ferguson estimates more than 30 youngsters have benefited from the memorial fund, by helping purchase equipment and memberships.

"One little kid e-mailed me recently, and said how much he's enjoyed it," Ferguson added. "I think this is something Scott and Jenny would have supported."
