TRURO - Colchester County council is looking at offering hundreds of dollars to support a local boxing club.
The Truro Amateur Boxing Club requested $800 from the county to help fund the Provincial Boxing Card it's hosting next month at the Agridome in Bible Hill.
The expense is estimated at $1,600 and revenue is expected to come through ticket sales and the municipal grant, if approved formally by council at the end of the month. Council committee was in favour of the funding.
"There are about 50 kids in this club ... and I don't see these kids out running the streets," said Coun. Glenn Edwards, regarding the positive effect the program has on its participants.
Any revenues exceeding expenses would be turned over to the Provincial Boxing Association for the national event in Halifax next year.

I had a kid go there... He attended for about two month's before the old fella running it died. My kid was sent home because he was told there is no longer room for him... without the registration I paid.

it used to be called Colchester Amateur Boxing Club that is how i remember the club being called. i used to box there for 3 1/2 years, knew all the coaches there. it sad sad that they lost one of their coach/ judge. the money you pay to box there before went to boxing nova scotia. i was home the past 2 years and never seen the club in the truro area at all. just hope the new owners are good but they will never be better than the ones i had. BJ there is always room for people in the club and after my old friend died, when i first joined i was 10. boxed for 2 years in elementary school, once when i was in jr. high and then went back when i finished school.

Different club, different time. Was the registration paid done so to Boxing Nova Scotia or to the club itself? If it was the annual fee to BNS (all that the club ever charged for the 10 years that I was there) there was nothing that the club could to do reimburse your money, although the BNS annual registration would have worked at any other club.

On a brighter note, it is great to see the (new) club growing, producing competitive fighters, and putting on cards after a few years in hiatus. Wish I could attend!
