TRURO – The Cardiac Cougars did it again.
The CEC girls’ hockey team erased a 2-1 deficit with two third period goals to defeat Dalbrae 3-2 in Saturday night’s high school hockey semifinal to advance to this afternoon’s provincial championship game.
It was the second day in a row the Cougars came from behind to notch a big victory at the tournament in Westville.
“The comeback kids,” coach Shaun Munroe called his team. “They have a lot of heart, a lot of soul and a lot of drive, that’s for sure.”
April MacKay scored the tying goal by snapping a shot into the top corner before Danielle McCully sniped the winner with three minutes remaining in the contest.
Taylor Lynds scored the first goal while Tiffany MacDonald had a pair of assists and Katie McCavour added a single helper.
The Cougars will play the C.P. Allen Cheetahs at 1p.m. in today’s final. The Cougars lost 3-2 to the Bedford school in the last game of the preliminary round when both teams had already clinched playoff spots with 2-0 records.
The Cougar program is only in its second year of operation.
