TRURO – The Truro Bearcats coughed up a two-goal lead in the third period Saturday night and it cost them two points.
The visiting Bridgewater Lumberjacks scored three unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Bearcats 4-3 in front of 625 fans at Colchester Legion Stadium.
Goals eight seconds apart by Bridgewater’s Paul Dimitruk and Kris Faric tied the game with about eight minutes to play and Michael Crawley won the game four minutes later.
Brett Frazee, Travis Moore and Colin Beck scored for the Bearcats while Jordan Mock had a pair of assists. Single helpers went to Fraze, Stephen Horyl and Jordan Burke.
Kirk Rafuse made 23 saves but was tagged with the loss while Philip Wright made 29 saves in the victory.
Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.
With three games remaining in the regular season the Bearcats are in second place in the Maurice Bent Division with a 28-17-1-3. They are two points up on third-place Yarmouth (28-20-1-1) with a game in hand and three points back of division-leading Pictou County (29-15-1-4) with both teams having played 49 games.
The victory improves fourth-place Bridgewater to 22-25-0-2.
Truro travels to Dieppe on Tuesday and Bridgewater on Friday before coming home to finish up the regular season Saturday against Yarmouth.
