BROOKFIELD - The East Hants Penguins did the Brookfield Elks a favour Sunday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
The Penguins (16-14-1-2, 35 points) nipped the Sackville Blazers 5-4 in Lantz, all but nailing down the final two playoff spots in the Fred Fox Division for themselves and the Elks. Brookfield (15-15-0-2, 32 points) would have to lose its two remaining regular season games while Sackville (14-17-0-1, 29 points) would have to win their remaining two to knock the Elks out of post-season play.
The Elks, who lost 7-6 to the Windsor Royals Friday, are in Sackville tonight for a 7:30 p.m. start before finishing the schedule Friday in Port Hawkesbury against the Strait Pirates. Sackville has lost 11 of its last 14 games since Nov. 22.
Against Windsor, Jimmy Scullion netted a hat trick while Tom Whidden scored twice and Chris Armsworthy and Darcy Gillis added single markers. Travis Smith was tagged with the loss after facing 46 shots.
