TRURO - Truro's Daniel Perigo gave the Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets the ending they were looking for against the Cape Breton Tradesmen in a wild weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.
Perigo scored the shootout winner to give Pictou County a 5-4 victory. Pictou County, which boasts 10 Colchester County players, erased a 4-2 deficit at the second intermission a day after the Tradesmen did the same thing to them to win 5-4 in a shootout.
The results leave Pictou County (21-10-2-1) in second in the eight-team league, one point ahead of the third-place Halifax Titans (21-9-2-0) and 10 points back of the Dartmouth Ice Dawgs (27-5-0-1). Pictou County has just one regular season game remaining against the Titans next weekend in Halifax.
Peter Topshee scored in regulation with Perigo and Mitchell Scott adding assists. Dylan Frank made 28 saves for the win. All four are Truro natives.
Onslow Mountain's Matthew Mingo, Stewiacke's Colby Lanceleve and Topshee scored Saturday. Scott and Perigo chipped in assists and Truro's Matthew MacCallum made 11 saves.
