TRURO – Onslow Mountain’s Drew Bezanson recently added another accomplishment to his freestyle BMX resume.
The 20-year-old won the Toronto BMX Jam, the largest BMX competition in Canada, by putting up 97.5 points in the pro division final. He also qualified first with 96 points. Brett Banasiewicz was second overall with 95 points.
Bezanson ended his run with an icepick he stuck on a windowsill about 10 feet above a 10-foot ramp, electrifying the crowd. He dedicated the trick, which was named trick of the night, to a pair of fellow competitors who were injured earlier in the competition. A video of Bezanson’s run is at bmx.transworld.net/tag/2010-toronto-bmx-jam/.
Bezanson also filmed a segment for CBC’s Rick Mercer Report Saturday in which Bezanson teaches the comedy host how to ride BMX. The segment will air Tuesday at 9 p.m. local time.
