Pinkney wins two at Scotties

BRIDGEWATER - Truro's Colleen Pinkney is carrying an undefeated record into Day 2 today at the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts women's curling championship at Bridgewater Curling Club.
Pinkney won both of her opening day matches Wednesday to earn a 2-0 record. Pinkney defeated Mayflower's Margaret Cutcliffe 8-3 and laid a 10-1 beating on Tanya Hilliard, also of Mayflower.
Pinkney, joined by mate Wendy Currie, second Karen Hennigar, lead Susan Creelman, alternate Shelley MacNutt and coach Judy Burgess, meets Glooscap's Jocelyn Nix (0-2) today at 1 p.m. before taking on Dartmouth's Nancy McConnery, also 2-0, at 7 p.m.
Pinkney, the current national senior women's champion, scored single points in each of the first three ends against Cutcliffe, who countered with one point in the fourth end. Pinkney then scored two in the fifth and three in the seventh to ice the victory in eight ends.
Pinkney grabbed a 2-0 lead over Hilliard in the first end before Hilliard made it 2-1 in the fourth. Pinkney then extended her lead to 5-1 in the fifth end and added two more points in the sixth and three in the seventh.
