Bearcat-of-the-week honours go to veteran goalie Kirk Rafuse.
He backstopped the Bearcats to a 3-1 win over the visiting Amherst Ramblers last Saturday. Rafuse turned aside 33 shots in the game, including several excellent chances during seven Amherst powerplays.
After 16 starts this year, he has recorded a 10-5-1 record, compiling a solid 2.26 GAA.
He got his hockey start in the Kentville Minor Hockey Association, progressing through the ranks with stops at the Acadia and West Hants associations.
Following a season with the Valley Wildcats midget AAA squad, he accepted an invite to the Bearcats' training camp. He earned a spot in that 2006-07 season, finishing with 18 appearances and an impressive 2.41 GAA.
The next season he split between the Lewiston Maineiacs (QMJHL) and the Halifax Lions. He returned to Truro last year, appeared in 25 games and posted a 2.71 GAA. In both seasons with Truro he was part of the goaltending duo receiving the Knickle-Young trophy.
At the mid-point of each season, the MacQuarrie's Three-Star selection names the Bearcat leading in that race. The first half honours go to Dana Fraser, who accumulated 17 points, two more than linemate Eric Louis-Seize. Hats off to both.
Tonight, the Bearcats visit the Bridgewater Lumberjacks.
Tomorrow, Truro hosts the Miramichi Timberwolves. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
