TRURO - The next time a large group of motorcycles cruise through town, there's nothing to fear, says the organizer of the annual Bike Blessing Memorial Run.
Lloyd Rector said there are still some people who are suspicious of motorcycle riders, especially when they are riding in a group.
"We are happy with who we are ... the general population sees a group of bikers together and think of outlaw gangs," he said. "The reality is bikers are dishwashers, lawyers, doctors ... people who just like to drive bikes."
Rector said Truro is becoming a more welcoming place for bikers.
"We have been involved in the community long enough we are getting respect."
The Organization of Responsible Bikers hosts the annual bike blessing. It also volunteers in community events, such as creating the annual Sled Filler at Christmas time and helping with bike rodeos and the Colchester Food Bank. The organization is about 25 years old and has about 40 members. Rector reminds the public that bikers are out in full force now and must be remembered on the roadways.
"It's riding season so keep your eyes open for us on the roads."
