Works, Capers win national hoops bronze medal

TRURO - Bible Hill's Nicole Works helped her Cape Breton Capers to a bronze medal Sunday at the CIS Women's Basketball Championships at the University of Windsor in Ontario.

The Capers defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Women 67-53 in the third-place game. Saskatchewan and Windsor faced off late Sunday for the gold.

Works recorded eight points, four assists and three rebounds in the game for Cape Breton's second best result at the event. The Capers won silver in 2006.

The AUS champion Capers, ranked No. 4 coming into the event, opened the CIS championship on Friday with a 58-49 quarter-final victory over No. 5 Toronto before suffering a 56-47 semifinal lossSaturdayagainst top-ranked Windsor.
