TRURO - The Truro Panthers downed the Hants North Flames 58-52 to capture a junior high school boys basketball tournament on the weekend.
After losing their first game of the tournament on Friday to Hants North, the Panthers regrouped and played their best game of the season Saturday morning to come away with a victory over Pugwash and set up a rematch with Hants North in the championship game.
Tournament MVP Tristen Ross pumped in 30 points against Pugwash. The Panthers also got key contributions from many other players during the tournament, including Taeshon Best, who raised the level of his game; tournament all-star Taran Jordan, who knocked down some clutch three-pointers; and Kyle Hamilton and Drew Erskine, who were huge in the rebounding department.
"It was a complete team effort," said Panthers coach Chris Ross.
New Glasgow also competed in the tournament.
The Panthers return to action today at 4 p.m. when they host Hants North.
