TRURO - The Truro Bearcats managed only one win against the Sydney Sooners in a trio of games at the TAAC Grounds over the weekend.
The Bearcats senior team pulled off a come-from-behind walk-off win Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader before dropping the next two games to the Sooners.
Adam Lombard smacked a single off Sooners' pitcher Nate Brewer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Cats their second win of the season. John Chapman picked up the win in relief, coming in to pitch in the sixth inning.
The second game of the doubleheader was much the same, as the two teams were again evenly matched. The Sooners tied the weekend series in a game that saw Bearcats pitcher Josh Fushtey throw into the ninth inning before defensive mistakes cost Truro the game.
The Cats outhit the Sooners 12-7 and took a tie game into the ninth, before giving up three runs in the top of the inning.
Logan Aker picked up the win for the Sooners, coming to the mound in the seventh inning.
Brewer would make up for the Game 1 loss Sunday, taking matters into his own hands offensively. Brewer posted a double, two singles and three RBI en route to a 7-2 victory. Pat Doucette threw a complete game victory for the Sooners, giving up only four hits.
Chapman evened out his weekend record, picking up the loss on the mound. The entire Cats' offense came from Adam Lombard, who doubled in a pair of runs in the eighth inning.
After a busy weekend, the two teams now sit tied for third in the league with 2-4 records.
The Bearcats will be back in action tonight against the Kentville Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at the TAAC Grounds.
