Bearcats open season with win

TRURO – The Truro Bearcats opened up the 2014 Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League with a victory on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats downed the Kentville Wildcats 8-1 to start off the season with a bang. Josh Fushtey went the distance for the Bearcats, pitching a complete game, nine-hit victory. Jeff Chisholm and Guy Pellerine both homered for the Cats and added three RBI apiece, while Daniel Bates hit a solo shot and John Chapman also drove in a run.

Fushtey carried a shutout into the ninth inning before giving up a solo homerun to Dusty Isenor in the top of the inning.

For the Wildcats, Corey Kent picked up the loss on the mound. Mike Lockhart led the way in the batter’s box, going three-for-three with a double.

The Bearcats will next be in action on Sunday, when they take on the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians at 2 p.m.
